Vancouver Sclerotherapy
Treatment for Spider & Varicose Veins
Sclerotherapy is a cosmetic medical procedure used to treat varicose veins and spider veins. It is a safe, minimally invasive procedure typically used to treat varicose veins that are on the smaller side. The treatment has both medical and cosmetic purposes, as it both prevents blood flow through varicose veins and removes the unsightly appearance of spider and varicose veins.
At Vancouver Vein & Surgical Center, we commonly recommend sclerotherapy to patients with spider veins and small varicose veins. Call us at (360) 448-2047 to schedule an appointment.
How Sclerotherapy Works
A tiny needle is used to inject a solution directly into the vein. The solution irritates the lining of the vessel, causing it to swell and stick together, and the blood to clot. Over time, the body will absorb the treated vein. Mild discomfort may occur, and a cramping sensation may be felt for 1 to 2 minutes when larger veins are injected. The number of veins injected in one session is variable, depending on the size and location of the veins, and the patient’s overall medical condition.
The majority of people who have sclerotherapy will see improvement. You can expect resolution of 50% - 70% of your veins with multiple treatments. The number of treatments necessary to clear or improve the condition differs with each patient and depends on the extent of the varicose and spider veins.
